Good day and I trust you find this blog in good spirit. With all that is happening with the floods in QLD, I’m sure most would be looking to help one another. I’d like to divert your attention to an article I found in the Sydney Morning Herald (p.15, 12/01/2011) today about how we can help each other’s health. The article brings our attention to a decade of research that has detailed the impact of social networks on individual behaviour, and in particular how the health of people in your social network can have a significant impact on your own health.
The researchers revealed a startling result: a person with a friend who becomes obese has an increased chance of becoming obese themselves. That's right: your friends might be making you fat, and vice versa. Obesity occurs in clusters (SMH). Adversely, if you have friends who are interested in health and keep healthy (like me) you’ll be likeier to avoid the bulge and all the nasty’s that go with it. I’m not being prejudice; it’s just all the negatives that go with this condition that makes me want to work harder to help others.
So please read The friends who may be helping you break your new year's resolutions and help each other battle what is a disaster in front of our very eyes and CAN be avoided, unlike Mother Nature’s fury. Enjoy your day
